You have a number of options when it comes to replacing missing teeth and having a full, beautiful smile. One option that has withstood the test of time is a removable partial denture. Partials are often covered by dental insurance, do not require the surgery that dental implants do, don’t require as much alteration to your existing teeth like bridges do, and are still natural-looking and well-fitting thanks to modern dental technology.

At Troup Family Dental, we are pleased to offer a couple of different types of partials, which helps us customize your treatment plan to your individual needs and preferences. We offer partials with acrylic and a traditional metal base.

DO I NEED PARTIALS?

Missing teeth can have a detrimental effect on your quality of life. You may feel self-conscious about the way your smile looks and may avoid smiling or laughing, or you may attempt to cover your mouth with your hand.

Additionally, missing teeth can cause physical discomfort. You may find it uncomfortable to eat fresh, healthy foods or notice that your speech is slightly distorted. A partial can help correct these problems. Not only does it give you a complete, natural-looking smile, you will have a much easier time eating and your speech will be clearer, although it may take a week or two to adjust to your new partials. We can help you through this adjustment process and provide tips on how to acclimate yourself to your partials more easily.

CARING FOR YOUR PARTIALS

The way that you clean your partials will depend on whether you have a traditional metal and acrylic partial. Dr. May will give you thorough instructions on caring for your partial, but in general, you should follow these tips:

  • Don’t use hot water to clean or soak your partial. The heat can cause the materials in the partial to soften and can change the shape of the partial.

  • Use a product specifically designed to clean your type of partial. Traditional partial wearers can use denture-care products to clean their partial.

  • No matter which type of partial you are wearing, be very careful not to drop your partial. This can severely damage your appliance and will require repair and, possibly, replacement. With good care habits, your partial should last you for years.
