At Troup Family Dental, we offer white fillings to our patients. These tooth-colored fillings are an improvement over the old amalgam fillings, which are often referred to as silver fillings. White fillings are durable and effective and allow us to fill in cavities flawlessly.

ADVANTAGES OF WHITE FILLINGS

The advantages of white fillings go beyond esthetics. Amalgam fillings contain small amounts of mercury. While multiple tests have shown that the amount of mercury in these fillings is too small to cause problems and no health concerns have been documented that have been traced to mercury in dental fillings, many people find that they are uncomfortable with the idea of having even trace amounts of

mercury in their own or their children’s mouths. White fillings eliminate that worry completely.

Another advantage of white fillings is that once placed, they actually bond to the tooth. Amalgam fillings do not bond to your tooth and can actually act as a wedge, which increases the risk of your tooth cracking.

When white fillings were first introduced, they didn’t last quite as long as amalgam fillings. Modern dental technology has improved the way white fillings are made and placed, and today’s white fillings are very durable and long-lasting.

PLACING WHITE FILLINGS

The process for placing white fillings is similar to that used to place amalgam fillings. By cleaning and removing the decayed area it is possible to prevent further decay from occurring. Once the cavity is cleaned out, the white filling, which is made up of a composite resin, is placed to restore the natural contours of your tooth.

If you are tired of your dark, metal fillings or if any have become loose or damaged, we may be able to replace them with white fillings! To find out more about this option, please call Troup Family Dental and schedule a consultation!

You may also wish to contact your insurance if you need fillings. Different dental insurance companies have different policies when it comes to paying for white fillings, so it’s helpful to know ahead of time exactly how much of the procedure will be covered by your insurance. If you need help getting this information, let us know.
