To find out if a dental bridge is right for you, call Troup Family Dental and schedule a consultation with Dr. May.

Missing teeth are more than just a cosmetic flaw. Your teeth may shift position slightly, and other teeth may become loose. Plus, as your other teeth try to compensate, you may experience additional wear and tear, which could lead to erosion and even fractures. Missing teeth may make it difficult to enjoy favorite foods, and over time, the shape of your face may even change. Dental bridges are a great way improve your smile, keep your teeth from shifting and allow you to continue to eat any type of food you desire!

BRIDGES

TYPES OF DENTAL BRIDGES

The type of bridge you get and the materials used to create it may vary depending on your specific needs. Most bridges are held in place with crowns over your natural teeth (or dental implants) on either side of the gap. Dr. May will talk about your options with you and help you decide the type of bridge that is best for you.

Dental bridges also are available in a variety of materials including:

  • Full Zirconia (ceramic)

  • Gold and other metal alloys

  • Porcelain fused to metal

  • A combination of different materials

Each type of material used to create a bridge has its own specific advantages and drawbacks that make them appropriate in different situations. Dr. May will help you choose the material that is right for you.

ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL BRIDGES

You have several options when it comes to replacing missing teeth including dentures, partials, and dental implant crowns. Why might you choose a bridge?

  • Unlike dentures and partials, bridges are long-lasting and do not have to be removed daily because they are cemented in place.  You won't have to worry anymore about your partial moving at the most inopportune time!

  • Dental implants are great, but they do require the placement of a titanium post where your tooth used to be. The process does take some time for implants, but dental bridges can be done quickly usually in just two appointments. Additionally, bridges do not require the healing time of dental implants, which allows you to have a complete smile that much faster.

  • Dentures require improvements and adjustments as you age and the shape of your gums subtly changes. Bridges typically last at least 15 years and may last much longer with a strong commitment to good oral hygiene habits.
